5 STARS! (click on pic above for Amazon link)
Horror has always been my #1 passion, followed closely by Dark Fantasy. Romance has never been my thing and probably never will be. That said, upon being introduced to this book and remaining glued to the pages all the way through, Lucretia Stanhope has shocked and surprised me. She identifies herself as a Romance author, and yes, this book does have a definite romantic current running through it, but there is also a glowering darkness which permeates the atmosphere – an underlying menace and horror which latches on and refuses to let you go. In all of my reading experience, and with all the multitude of characters encountered, although identifying with, empathising with, cheering for and even getting choked up over many of them, none have actually been able to capture my dark heart. And then this series’ protagonist, Gwen Hensley came along.
Lucretia has created an incredibly complex world – or worlds, rather, with An Elemental Witch Trials series. The character development is exemplary, with very real personalities and very strong, captivating emotion. She has written 11 books in it so far and is now working on a 12th, and although this is the first one released (Books 2-5 in the series are now available also), after reading this, eye insisted on gaining a sneak peek into more. Eye have fallen in love with this series and have been given the great privilege to now have read all the way up to Book 9 (working my way through book 10 now). Lucretia Stanhope writes with a magical and captivating ease and has me caught in her snare. Eye believe she has cast a spell on me through these books and will cast a spell on you too, should you endeavour to venture into her world. There is magic in her words.
Follow Lucretia Stanhope on Amazon and devour all she has to offer. You won't be disappointed!
Visions abound, etched deep within our psyches. Depictions of Hell that have, over the centuries of conditioning and the dominant influence of Christianity in western culture and history, taught us from the youngest age to fear a wrathful god. To be cast for an eternity into a fiery torment without relief or salvation is one of the greatest horror stories ever told. But, how many of us know of Xibalba, the Hell of the Mayan culture? Or of Ah-Puch, the Mayan god of Death who presides over all who find themselves forever in this place? The Christian depictions of Hell pale in comparison, as you will find within the pages of this book. Michelle Garza and Melissa Lason take you on a terrifying guided tour of Xibalba. The rulers and denizens of this realm of endless, unrelenting Death have been resurrected by these two necromantic authors with such deeply disturbing clarity, that you are there, suffering the agonising torments of Dennis, Kelly, Alissa, Tyler, and their teacher Wes as they set out to meet with Wes’s mentor of archaeology, Professor Lipton. Lipton has made a discovery that will rewrite the history books, but as fate would have it, he has opened the portal to Xibalba and fallen victim to those who have been set free. What follows is a tale of the truest horror. Mayan Blue is Michelle and Melissa’s debut novel and after reading many of their short stories beforehand, it was clear that this was a masterpiece in the making. Stifling, claustrophobic terror and hopelessness seeps from every page, every word. This book is the truest definition of horror you can imagine, and written with such naturally terrifying description as to leave you feeling grateful that the Mayans have faded into obscurity and your sinful life will only condemn you to the playground version of the Christian Hell. Five stars doesn’t even begin to rate this tale. Michelle Garza and Melissa Lason – The Sisters of Slaughter – have arrived with a vengeance that will plunge the world of horror into its very own nightmare. One from which it may never recover.
Well, feed me garlic n call me stinky! This mouth watering piece of brutality booted my head off! Dawn Cano has cooked up a devastating feast of savagery with this short but highly disturbing story of a baby sitter who really needs some sleep and there's only one way that's going to happen! Dawn's debut is absolutely killer in its execution and this is one author who eye am salivating to read more of! The warning that some scenes may be disturbing is one not to be taken lightly, but if you have the stomach for it, you will walk away from this little tale fully satisfied!
My Review of Just A Few & Tenant's Rights by The Sisters of Slaughter - Michelle Garza and Melissa Lason
The Sisters of Slaughter - Michelle Garza and Melissa Lason - have had several short stories published in various anthologies that have chilled my bones upon reading them and these two offerings, 'Just A Few' & 'Tenants Rights', are every bit as gruesome as was expected! Their attention to gory detail is showcased here in all its blood chilling glory. 'Just A Few' gives us Tom the junkie, who robs the homes of the elderly for their medication when he can't get his fix of smack. His own personal demon (heroin) brings him face to face with a demon of the more tangible, flesh and blood variety and he turns to the most unlikely source for help. The results are oozing with horrific violence and terror! In 'Tenants Rights', a scummy landlord fails to divulge the dark secret of the rundown hovel he rents out to an unsuspecting tenant. When his conscience finally gets the better of him and he tries to warn her, well... it's just a bit too late. Michelle and Melissa are two disturbingly brilliant authors of macabre and brutal horror, and this burnt, bloody offering really made my skin crawl! Highly recommended!
After reading the debut offering, SLEEP DEPRIVED by Dawn Cano, eye became an instant fan. Dawn’s ability as an exceptional author of the extreme Horror variety is undeniable and in this, her second story, Cano has taken it to another level indeed! There is a particular skill in writing short stories that differs from that of writing novels. The author must be able to paint a complete picture in only so many words; a vivid background as well as being able to yank the reader right back into the present situation. Dawn does this with astounding ease and delivers with brutal, unnerving and descriptive clarity. This story dives fearlessly into so many taboo themes it will leave your head spinning. Torture, rape, necrophilia, adultery, physical and mental sickness and more. Add to that some lashings of psychological Horror and this short story stays with you long after you finish reading. Her warning of ‘some scenes may disturb’ is entirely warranted. If you are easily offended or disturbed, then this is not for you. Then again, this is Horror, right? You wouldn’t even be reading these reviews if you weren’t at least morbidly curious. As a writer myself of extreme Horror, the tales that Dawn Cano writes have me salivating for more. There is a bit of a catch cry building and making its way around Facebookland – “Have you read Dawn Cano yet?” Well, have you? At only 99c a pop, eye strongly suggest you do.
The Queen of Bones is one of those books that stay with you long after you finish that final page. My favourite book so far this year, Gregg Zimmerman has effectively destroyed civilisation as we know it with this riveting story. An extremely unlikely hero is presented here in young Sara Hill. She's one tough young woman, there's no denying that, but she is alone, the vulnerable age and gender of a 17 year old girl in a world overrun by lawless, violent "survivors" of the cataclysm which has struck the earth, and to make things more ridiculously hard for her, she is crippled with rheumatoid arthritis. But she has a secret that has kept her alive throughout the reoccurring 'sunthrobs', which assault the earth at regular intervals, killing anyone or anything unfortunate enough to be out in the open when they hit. Her naivete is consistent with that of a teenage girl, but at the same time, her tough 'take no s***' attitude is what gets her through the many trials and tribulations she has to face in her journey. Many times throughout the book, you forget she's just a young girl because the world Gregg has created here has made her grow up fast and way beyond her years. This 'secret', which you will have to discover for yourselves when you read this book, will be her salvation in a lot more ways than one. If you are a fan of dystopian, apocalyptic fiction and you bypass this book, rest assured, you are doing yourself a grave disservice. The Queen Of Bones is a book you NEED to read! Gregg Zimmerman is a powerful voice in the desolate realms of post apocalyptic Horror, and believe me, his is a name you will be hearing a lot more when this becomes a bestseller!
With a predominance of 5 star reviews on Amazon, and a growing number of readers praising THE SCARLETT CURSE, the time is right to now announce that Book II in THE SACRED BLADE OF PROFANITY series will soon be unleashed. JOSHUA'S FOLLY, the prequel to THE SCARLETT CURSE, is about to go into its first round of edits with J ELLINGTON ASHTON PRESS! 2015 has been an exciting year for me indeed! The number of anthologies in which my short stories, flash fiction and poetry appears has grown exponentially, and continues to grow. My family at JEA made me Ambassador to the press earlier this year, welcoming me onboard as a member of staff. More recently, eye was put in charge of my very own anthology with JEA, as editor. Covering the theme of my all time favourite Horror monster, the Werewolf, FULL MOON SLAUGHTER is accepting submissions throughout 2016, until August 1. It is due for release around Halloween '16. In the past week or so, my duties with J Ellington Ashton Press have broadened to include editing as well. 2 books so far have been added to my editing resume, with a third about to be started on. Keep those razors sharp, and slice off your eyelids, because eye will be a busy wolf from here on in Hahaha! If you have read THE SCARLETT CURSE, no doubt, you will want to find out what Scarlett, Dera, Joshua, and a host of new characters have in store for them in JOSHUA'S FOLLY. Soon, my friends. Very soon, so stay tuned, and stay bloody! AAARRROOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!
5 Stars! What a hellish journey! Eye have just finished reading this incredible story by TS Dann, about a realm that could not be described any other way. Nightmarescape is the story of Curse, who awakens in this grey, dead and decaying realm, with no recollection of who he is, or how he has come to be here. Some say it is Hell, while others perceive it as some kind of Purgatory. Its denizens are grotesque and corpse-like in appearance and the realm itself is in a perpetual cycle of war and destruction. Whatever this place is, it has claimed our unlikely hero, who is immediately befriended by an insane character, known as Larry Spectre. He takes Curse under his wing, so to speak, and helps him adjust to his new surroundings, as bit by bit, in bouts of failing consciousness, memories of his former life are gradually revealed to him. To give away any more here would do the story a grave injustice, as this is a MUST READ for anyone who has a liking, and indeed the stomach for Extreme Gore and supernatural Horror. This story is told flawlessly by TS, with descriptions and characters so intricately detailed and scenes of frantic, desperate battle carnage that are second to none. Eye found myself, in the final 60 pages or so, constantly looking at the remaining page numbers disappearing with inward groans of "Noooo!" as eye knew the story had to soon come to an end. Eye found some consolation in the knowledge that this is only the first in a series of Nightmarescape adventures to come. Do yourselves a massive favour, and wrap your minds around this nightmare realm that TS Dann has created. Available at the links below, in Kindle and paperback formats.

Roma Gray is a storyteller of the highest order. When eye read The Hunted Tribe, it was as if Roma was there in the room, narrating it to me. The tale of a boy who is awkwardly becoming a man, discovering more about himself and his heritage than he could ever hope to imagine. Finding out that the dreams which plague him, are not mere dreams, and the monster of his dreams is indeed very real and very deadly. The ancient Grishla, which has followed his lineage through the generations, with the intent to kill every last one of them. Young Sean is sent to stay with his grandmother, who carries secrets so terrible, she has to impart this knowledge to her grandson with ultimate care, so as not to crush his already fragile self-confidence, which would spell doom for both Sean and for the entire family line. Instead, she must help the boy become the kind of man (in this case, a 'super witch') who can defeat the Grishla once and for all and bring peace to the Dwanake tribe. Roma has a unique style, which makes the unbelievable completely believable. The mundane lives of the characters in the story are infused with a boy/girl next door realism. Even the magic which lives inside Sean and his grandmother, and the way it is incorporated into the mundane, has a seamless magic of its own. The Grishla itself is a creature which has no place in this world of ours, yet in The Hunted Tribe, the danger it presents to the characters is palpable. Whenever it is close, whenever it strikes and claims another victim, you are truly on the edge of your seat. A lot of books have characters in them that you would gladly see die, which in itself is the mark of a good writer, to make believably hateable personalities, but the characters in this book - some are not very likeable at all, yet you still cheer for them when they slip through the clutches of the Grishla. Roma has developed the characters beyond that one-dimensional 'love "em or hate 'em" role, and given them both strengths and vulnerabilities, for the reader to empathise even with the more unlikable ones and root for them in times of peril. The ending of this story leaves it wide open for the tale to continue, and continue it surely will! Eye am itching for the inevitable sequel to come. This is a brilliant novel by a refreshingly brilliant author. It is highly recommended that you find this out for yourself..
Eye love Horror. Werewolves in particular are my favourite creatures of the night-time world. Eye also love Metal...All types but mostly the darker, more extreme end of the spectrum. My involvement in the Black and Death Metal scene in Australia over the years is what first got me writing, in the form of lyrics for bands eye have been a part of. Now, long overdue, my writing has expanded to include short stories to chill your bones as well as my current baby, The Sacred Blade Of Profanity series, which begins with my debut novella, The Scarlett Curse. http://www.amazon.com/Scarlett-Curse-Sacred-Blade-Profanity/dp/1512323160/ref=sr_1_2?ie=UTF8&qid=1436116918&sr=8-2&keywords=The+Scarlett+Curse
