(A Tribute from the Depths of My Dark Heart)
BIO\INTRO: Mar Garcia-Amorena is a woman of many talents – artist, author, book promoter, reviewer, and compulsive thinker. She is the founder and owner of The Bold Mom – a place where you will find a vast world of horrific delights, from interviews, reviews, art, dark poetry, stories, exciting and disturbing projects, links to several other great sites promoting Horror in its various forms…and the list goes on. You will get lost in the world she has built there, and happily so.
Mar – and The Bold Mom – are a swiftly rising force in the indie Horror community, offering an exemplary service and invaluable support to many authors as well as publishers. You can find her all over social media, whether you are an author looking for help with pushing your work, or a reader, ravenous for new Horrors to sink your fangs into.
This is Mar: aside from all of the above in the bio, Mar is also an amazing human being. As the title of her site suggests, Mar is mother to a beautiful 4 year old bundle of chaotic energy, who demands her attention right from those moments before her eyes even open at ‘stupid o’clock’ in the morning, until the nightly battle of getting her to go to sleep. During that time, Mar tirelessly works to support and promote a host of authors in the indie horror world, all while patiently tending to the needs of her daughter, and also somehow managing to put up with me 24/7 haha.
In the short space of 6 or 7 moons since eye first bore witness to her awesomeness, she has risen like the recent Blue Blood Super Moon and cast a bloody shadow over much of the horror community, and with some absolutely awe inspiring results.
Flash back to August 2017 and eye had just released the Project 26 anthology DANCE WITH THE DEMON with JEA Press. Mar had only just reached out to me a couple weeks prior when eye made a ‘coming soon’ post about DwtD – first time we’d ever talked. She graciously offered her support when it was to come out. Eye had no idea she was even a promoter and when it did release, and eye sat for 5 minutes with my fb message open, wondering how to ‘take her up on the offer’, eye expected no more than a good ol’ share on her wall. Something that would’ve been greatly appreciated. What eye didn’t expect was her immediate reply. What eye expected even less was the content of that reply.
She was like - “Right. I will need every author listed in the anthology; their bios, their Amazon pages, social media etc. etc. etc.” Naturally stunned, eye gave her what she asked for as fast as eye could. Not even half hour later, she messaged me back with something along the lines of - “If you need anything changed, just let me know and I am happy to do it.”
...She also sent me this link…For free…For Nothing. An amazing spotlight on my antho and all the authors involved, as well as a permanent spot on her website.

Bear in mind, Mar didn’t know me, or any of the authors involved, yet she selflessly gave her time and boundless energy to each and every one of us.
And that is the way this Woman in Horror continues to operate – selflessly, tirelessly, professionally. A steadily growing number of authors will attest to this, some of whom would still be wondering how the hells they are going to get their book noticed in this churning sea of literature, had they not sought her out. So many of them have shown their gratitude and helped to spread the word about this amazing woman and the fangtastic service she provides, be it a simple banner ad for their book, cover art, or the ‘complete package’; The Bold Mom delivers results!
Here’s the thing – Eye don’t do causes. Eye don’t do ‘days’, ‘weeks’, ‘months’. Shitmas, Beaster, Valentines…fukk, even Halloween. Whatever, to me it’s just another day, like my bornday…just another day. Seeing a few WiHM posts from my woman friends and peers, however, who eye have mountains of respect for, eye can regretfully see the need for Women in Horror Month. Even more so with witnessing first hand the instances of bullshit Mar has had to put up with in order to gain the respect of her peers… it hasn’t been only men she’s had to deal with either – and that has been the most disappointing of all.
Thankfully, since we’ve been a couple, the number of potential ‘clients’ messaging her with “sweetheart”, “darling”, “beautiful” etc has dropped to nearly zero…nearly. Still, there are those who don’t take her seriously and basically, it is their great loss. There are still those blokes who only pop up on her posts which include a selfie, yet are nowhere to be seen when she posts anything book or art related (yes, she sees you blokes, and so do eye haha. Put it back in your pants and quit tryin’ so hard. You already lost a long time ago. It's kinda funny to watch, really.)
It’s pretty fukked that eye even need to add these last paragraphs to something meant to be so beautiful, but it is Women in Horror Month and as well as celebrating the brutal brilliance of the deadliest of the species in Horror, it’s also a month to address the real, yet severely outdated attitudes towards Women in Horror being given the accolades and the respect they deserve.
If you want to approach Mar for work, you will be greeted by a person who is willing and eager to tailor a service specifically to your personal needs. A consumate professional in every sense of the word. Look her up on The Bold Mom and send her a message.
